IT'S ALL RELATIVE

The other day I felt the urge to reply to a comment on a Facebook post about an “ugly” dress that was very simply cut and selling for €200, made in linen jersey.  Not one of my creations, by the way.  And not my adjective … each to their own bad taste, as they say here in France.

It was quite an interesting thought process, and so here is the (non-exhaustive) list of people and costs involved to get a photo of a dress on the internet, however ugly or beautiful you may find it.

PEOPLE:
Fabric buyer
Designer

Cutter
Dressmaker

Model
Make-up Artist
Hairdresser
Photographer
Stylist
Webmaster
Administrators
Marketers
Accountants
Export/Import departments

COSTS:
Fabric and related (thread etc)
Photo studio
Website
Workshop and Store rent
Equipment (machines etc)
Utilities: water/phone/internet/electricity
Bank charges
Insurance
Social charges

And as far as I’m concerned, I do the ones in bold, plus:

Sales
Cleaning
Merchandising

Does €200 really sound that much any more?
